Part of planning the ultimate Walt Disney World vacation is having those reservations ready. Disney vacation planning has changed so much over the years that you can book advance reservations for just about anything. Reservations are just as essential for popular rides and character meet-and-greets as they are for the best restaurants. The way you save your place in line for these attractions is Fastpass+. Some Fastpasses are notoriously difficult to snag, so here is how to obtain even the most elusive Fastpass reservations.
How Fastpass+ Works
Fastpass+ is a system that allows you to book Fastpass reservations before you even leave for your trip. It allows you to pick 3 attractions upfront. When you are in the park and have used your Fastpass reservations, you can snag more Fastpasses throughout the day as you go. By doing this you can know your plans for these select attractions are secure. You can plan your day around them and have a smoother time while you are enjoying the parks. Since your Fastpasses operate by date and time, make sure you plan properly leading up to your Fastpass+ window.
You have a minimum of a 30-day window to make your Fastpass reservations before your arrival date at Walt Disney World. You can choose three attractions. to get you started, but you can get more while you are there, after you use the first three. If you want to change attractions because a better Fastpass becomes available, you can either cancel the Fastpass you no longer want, or you can scan it at the attraction and then make your new selection.
It’s best practice not to choose Fastpass reservations too early or too late in the day. This is because lines have not formed in the early morning, making Standby queues a better option. If you schedule an evening Fastpass Reservation, you lock yourself out from getting additional Fastpass reservations throughout the day. One exception to the morning rule is if you can snag one of those difficult Fastpasses like Flight of Passage, or Frozen Ever After. Select these hard-to-get Fastpasses whenever you can.
Snagging Difficult Fastpasses
Stay at a Disney Resort
A really good way to improve your chance of snagging difficult Fastpass reservations is to stay at a Disney resort. there are plenty of benefits to staying at one of the Disney hotels including getting into the parks earlier for morning Extra Magic Hours. One of those benefits is an additional 30 days to snag your Fastpass reservations. Guests at Disney World resorts have 60 days instead of only 30 to make their Fastpass+ selections. That is a big advantage and a major reason why if you don’t stay at a Disney resort, you will have a harder time getting Fastpasses for the most popular rides.
If you are unable to get the Fastpass you want in advance of your visit all is not lost. You can still grab Fastpasses as they become available throughout the day. This is another reason to not schedule your first three Fastpass reservations too late in the day. You want to be able to catch an opening when it becomes available. The best way to do this is to take a break and pick the attraction you want on My Disney Experience. refresh the screen to get an update on whether a Fastpass has become available. it could happen right away, or you may have to keep refreshing the screen for about 20-30 minutes. This strategy is best used while dining or enjoying a refreshment at a quick service location.
