The second day of a Walt Disney World vacation is usually considered the best, although the day of your arrival isn’t far behind. Nobody ever considers their departure day to be the best. I do my best to avoid departure day aboard the “tragical express” at all costs.
Even though we always make sure our last day has plenty of magic, it’s still hard to leave it all behind. It’s never long before Disney World withdrawal drives you to plan your next trip back. Friends, the post-Disney World depression is the real deal!
It’s always the worst when you just have to be back there but you know it will be at least another year or two before you can experience it again. When your suffering from Disney World withdrawal you need anything that will take that edge off until you can once again settle into real life.
Luckily, I have some tried and true coping mechanisms for dealing with Disney World withdrawals. Here are some useful tips that you can try at home.
Music From the Parks
The easiest and cheapest way to cope with those Disney World withdrawals is to play music from the parks in your house or in the car. Background music, attraction music, and other memorable audio tracks are an outstanding way to relive your favorite moments at Walt Disney World. There is an official Walt Disney World album that includes fabulous tracks from attractions in the Magic Kingdom and Epcot. You can stream a playlist anytime you feel the post Disney blues and reclaim your sanity.
Scented Candles
The sense of smell is the one that is best connected to memory, so the best way to take yourself back to the magic and satiate those Disney World withdrawals is to bring back some of your favorite, most unique scents from the Disney parks. There are boutique candle makers who specialize in making Disney inspired candles that smell like the unique surroundings you’ll find in the park. Some candles aim to recapture the smell of the water on Pirates of the Caribbean, while others focus more on the variety of scents on Main Street USA.
Vicarious Videos
Another quick way to get a fix of Disney World is to watch videos of Youtubers who go there. Whether they show food reviews or family vlogs the backdrop of the park is so mesmerizing, it almost feels like your there. Another fun trick is to find Disney Park Bench videos and take a few minutes to look at the POV of somebody sitting at a bench in one of the Disney parks. There are also ride POV videos and some videos even have a 360-degree field of vision that you can interact with.
Plan a Hypothetical Trip
My favorite thing to do when I want another Walt Disney World trip is to plan another Walt Disney World trip, even if I can’t really go. I love to search the interactive maps in MyDisneyExperience and figure out what I would do if I was there. I also love plotting my hypothetical trip and working out all the logistics and where I would eat. The Disney World website posts all of their current menus, so I can fantasize about the perfect meal. It’s so much fun to do, and it gets you better at planning, so the next time you do have a trip, you have all kinds of great ideas to pull from. All thanks to your Disney World withdrawals.
Decorate at Home
Another, perhaps more practical and productive method of coping with your Disney World withdrawals is interior decorating. Let your creativity shine as you release your inner Disney artist. You can use the inspiration you’ve picked up at the parks and resorts to change up your surroundings and create a uniquely beautiful space. The best part about this plan is that once you get it done, you won’t want to leave as much.
Watch Disney Movies
Thankfully, we can capture the Disney spirit by watching Disney DVDs or Disney Plus. A good Disney movie always puts a smile in my heart. Plan a Disney movie night and let your family pick a movie or two to watch. Sing along to the music and don’t forget the popcorn!
Read A Disney Book
Bring the magic of Disney home by ordering one of the many Disney Park history or reference books. Here are a few of my favorites:
