Now is an excellent time to visit Walt Disney World. the big 50th Anniversary is coming up and the resort is about to change forever. Walt Disney World has been mostly unchanged with a few notable exceptions for over two decades. However, the experience has changed greatly to keep up with guest expectations. As a result, planning a Walt Disney World trip can be tricky, particularly if you have never been there. There are Disney World mistakes people often make that can be easily avoided.
One of the big planning stages in putting together your Disney vacation is dining. You can book reservations 6 months out. While not booking reservations early enough can be a mistake if your heart is set on a specific restaurant, you can have an amazing time without any dining reservations at all. Disney has awesome quick-service locations with the added perk that you’ll have more time to do other things. So, while you should be aware of the reservation window and where you want to eat, it’s not one of our Disney World mistakes you should never make.
5 Disney World Mistakes You Do Not Want to Make
Leaving Your Hotel Late
You don’t have to be there at rope drop, but you should be mindful of where you are in relation to the park you are planning to visit. he parks and resorts are fairly spaced out from each other and travel time can be lengthy. It’s too easy to spend a lot of time in your room each morning without realizing how much you are setting yourself back. The Disney hotels are great and an amazing place to lounge, but morning hours are the best time to beat the crowds. Consider scheduling a day for relaxation, or take an afternoon break when the parks are most crowded.
Too Much Walking
The parks are huge. You will get tired. It’s a good idea to start walking regularly in the weeks before your trip so you can build up a tolerance. However, one of the great Disney World mistakes is unnecessarily walking greater distances. Study maps as you plan your vacation so you know what routes to take. If you don’t know the lay of the land before you arrive, you will likely find yourself running from one end of the park to the other and back again. The long game is what’s important on a Walt Disney World vacation. It’s also why you should not get a sunburn on the first day out.
No Rest Day
It is important to have a rest day to take in other elements of Disney World outside of the parks. If you stay long enough, you should have two. one day for getting more out of your resort hotel and another for exploring others. But planning only to visit the theme parks is one of the most classic Disney World mistakes. You will be sore for two or three days into your trip, so plan to recuperate.
Scheduling Your Third Fastpass Late
With Fastpass Plus, you get three Fastpasses to pre-select for each park ticket you have. As a general rule of thumb, it’s a mistake to ever use a Fastpass for a show, but the worst thing is scheduling your third Fastpass for one of the nighttime Spectaculars. It precludes you from getting any more Fastpasses. Ideally, you want all three of your Fastpasses spent by lunchtime. Then you can grab new Fastpasses one at a time as they come up for the rest of the day.
Why are shows bad for Fastpass? Because they typically run continuously, or frequently enough that the theater is unlikely to fill up. The show doesn’t start any earlier for Fastpass carriers. Nor do they get seated any sooner. It’s not that it’s never helpful, but the benefits are negligible and there are so many other better things to use Fastpass for.
Departure Too Early
Finally, a major mistake you can make if you aren’t careful is leaving too soon. You want to give yourself plenty of time to get to your flight on the last day. Don’t create a situation where you have to rush. Leaving Walt Disney World is always hard for us. You really want to give yourself some extra time to say goodbye and do one last really fun thing before you head back to the real world.
