Nothing says Spring in Walt Disney World quite like the International Flower and Garden Festival at Epcot. This exciting festival is the event that started it all back in 1994. If you love Epcot’s International Food and Wine Festival, you should visit from March 4 to June 1 to experience the original.
Why the Flower and Garden Festival?
The International Flower and Garden Festival is uniquely Disney. It touches on the natural world and environmental responsibility that the company espouses. Not only is there a loud and clear message of conservation, but there is also an emphasis on horticulture and landscaping. Two art forms rooted in science that are also uniquely Disney. As you tour various gardens and exhibits in Epcot, you will be seeing the very best of Disney in one of Imagineering’s core disciplinary fields.
Guided Tours
One of the most exciting guided tours at Epcot takes place during the Flower and Garden Festival. You can learn about the Disney landscaping and horticulture throughout Epcot and learn some Imagineering tricks to use at home. You can also take a tour of an English tea garden in the UK pavilion. Do the Behind the Seeds guided tour of the agricultural facilities in The Land pavilion as well. Another thing you can learn about at Epcot during the Flower and Garden Festival is the purple martins. The colorful birds flock to nest there every year. Special gourd-like nests have been erected just so that these migrating birds will have a place to raise their young.
Topiaries
The star attraction of the Flower and Garden Festival is the stunning topiaries that populate the park during spring. There are over 30 character topiaries that pay homage to our favorite Disney films from Lady and the Tramp to Beauty and the Beast. Fan favorites that return year after year are Lightning McQueen, Snow White, and the Seven Dwarfs, and Winnie the Pooh and Friends.
Around the World Showcase Pavilion, there are also several gardens that highlight diverse cultures and traditions as well as the beauty each distinct region has to offer.
Food
As with every Epcot festival people flock to the park just to try the food. There are outdoor kitchens scattered in all the usual places around the World Showcase Lagoon and Future World South. The creative cuisine at the Flower and Garden Festival has a focus on freshness and often incorporates produce in unique and exciting ways.
Family Fun
Kids will love the gardens and exhibits as well as the play areas developed for healthy activity. Kidcot locations will remain open, but there is also an interactive scavenger hunt for kids to participate in.
Stay in Epcot for the Garden Rocks concerts that happen nightly and purchase a dining package at one of the Epcot table service restaurants to ensure seating at the American Gardens Theater.
Before you leave the fun shop for festival merchandise specifically designed for children, men, and women who love Disney and gardening.
During the Flower and Garden Festival, why not participate in the Star Wars Rival Run Weekend in April. Participate in 5k and 10k runs, the 13.1 Mile Dark Side Challenge, and the RunDisney Kids Races from a diaper dash to 200 meters.
